I had to do a double take the first time I saw it...

No way, it has to be a spoof account, right? But it has the blue Verified badge… and he has a quarter of a million followers.

I couldn't believe my eyes… the one and only Wes Craven just followed my show, Beyond Geek, on Twitter. The Master of Horror, himself… Wes Freakin’ Craven!

I’m not going to lie, I was pretty darn giddy when I saw that. Why? Because he created one of my favorite horror villains (and franchises) of all time.

I’ll give you a moment to guess…

No, not Horace Pinker (Sorry, Mitch Pileggi) from Shocker

Or the Papa Jupiter and Mama’s family from The Hills Have Eyes—although they’re pretty darn evil…

If you guessed Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street, you would be correct.

I loved those movies. They even played a part in my geekdom as one of the first costumes I put together myself, and the franchise was part of the only video game I ever programmed called Heroes and Horror.

It was a simple trivia game I made in my junior high computer class. It asked multiple choice questions dealing with either superheroes or horror.

Of course, A Nightmare on Elm Street played a part as one of the questions.

Making the game made me realize two things: I love creating things, and I do not enjoy programming. That’s okay because at least I tried it.

I think that’s a big part of being a geek, you know, trying new things.

Recently, I combined horror with another love of mine to create a cosplay mashup of Captain Kirk and Michael Myers. Check out my Captain Myers Costume build.

Until next time, happy dreaming!

Joe

P.S. Do you like horror? Let me know and tell me why or why not. If you do like horror, what is your fave movie/book/game?

P.P.S. Just in case you missed it in my last email (and in honor of Heroes and Horror), click here to watch Beyond Geek - Real Superheroes.
